Anyone have any suggestions about where I could stay extremely cheaply in London for two weeks? I’m thinking a youth hostel, and that’s certainly my fall back plan, but recommendations or other ideas are welcome!

I like the Generator Hostel in Bloomsbury. It’s very simple rooms with showers and toilets on the floor…but the cheapest I’ve found so far. They also have a cheap dinner meal every evening and a bar with some party-making ideas in-house (that you won’t hear from your room).
It’s near Russel Square tube station, which is on the Picadilly line (IMHO the best for going to the city) within the city line (i.e. very central), but still, away from all the big noise. You could walk to Holborn/the Oxford Street in only a few minutes.

I’ll second the Gen. You really won’t find a cheaper place in central London. I spent a lot of time looking, and always ended back at the Gen.
It’s true it’s right near Russel Square tube, but also worth noting is that Kings Cross is the same distance (it’s about half way between the two). Depending on which airport you’re flying into, Kings Cross might be a lot simpler to get to.
