This was my podcast: the idea behind it was that I’d gather together a panel of guests and put ordinary people’s questions to them. Shockingly the format worked quite well (two of the episodes were even “Critic’s Choice” in The Independent newspaper), in no small part thanks to the brilliant guests that agreed to be a part of it; the only downsides were my presenting skills (I just don’t have that “radio” voice!) and the audio quality which I never did master. They still make for an interesting listen, all three of them that is, and so I’m making them available to download from this page. I hope you enjoy them!
Richard Stallman, Jeremy Allison and Jeff Waugh (mp3 | ogg)
This episode was all about free (as in speech; not beer) software and was an awesome start to the podcast as it had three of the most well known free software “celebrities”. Richard Stallman is the founder of the movement; Jeremy Allison is of Samba and Microsoft law suit fame; and Jeff Waugh is the all around likeable freedom junky who has been on the GNOME board for some years now.
It was lots of fun to make, only slightly marred by my half-sleepy feeling during it as we juggled four different time zones for it – leaving me with the 2am slot!
David Wilkinson, David Bartholomew and Russell Stannard (mp3 | ogg)
A fairly radical change of direction for the second episode as we moved on to talk about science and religion, but none the less interesting and the guests were equally awesome! The panel guests for this episode were: David Wilkinson, theologian and physicist as well as principal of St.Chad’s College, Durham; David Bartholomew, statistician and former Vice-Principal of the London School of Economics; and Russell Stannard, former head of Physics at the Open University.
Back to free software for this one, and a slight change in format as I had a single guest: Mark Shuttleworth, founder of the Ubuntu GNU/Linux distribution and first South African space tourist.
